Subs Factory version 1 is absolutely free. You can download, install and use it for free.

Compatibility

This application is an Universal Binary, this is to say it works as well with Macs fitted with Intel processors as with Macs fitted with a PowerPC processor.

To be opened or saved by Subs Factory, a files must be in the .srt format.

In order to visualize your subtitles in real conditions, you should use the free application VLC.
